About this listen
Meet the man who redefines the impossible
He’s shattered world records. He’s climbed the highest and coldest mountains wearing nothing but shorts. Most of all, he’s shown us that these feats are not superhuman - but that each of us has the ability to be healthier, stronger, and happier than we’ve ever imagined. Now you’re invited to hear Wim Hof tell the story of his incredible journey in his own words with The Iceman Speaks.
A personal encounter with a trailblazer of human potential
Who is “The Iceman”? What inspired him to create his revolutionary method for reclaiming our human potential, and to attempt feats of endurance and self-mastery that were thought to be medically impossible? In these audio sessions, recorded with Wim at his home in the Netherlands, you’ll experience his odyssey of discovery, including:
- Wim’s lifelong relationship with the majestic power of the cold
- Love, heartbreak, and joy - moving stories from Wim’s family life
- How nature, intuition, and rigorous testing led Wim to develop his revolutionary method
- Turning skeptics into believers - how Wim astonished researchers in trial after trial
- Shattering records - Wim explores what drives him to keep pushing the limits of possibility
- Man on a mission - the spiritual implications of Wim’s method for ourselves and our world
- Insights for anyone using the Wim Hof Method to get the most out of their practice
When listening to Wim Hof, you can’t help but feel the energy, passion, and optimism that have made him such a compelling figure. Yet as Wim says, “I am no superhero. I am no genetic freak. Anything I can do, you can do just as well.” The truly exceptional gift Wim possesses is his refusal to accept limitations - and when you listen to The Iceman Speaks, you’ll realize that gift is also within your grasp.

Our ancestors crossed deserts, mountains, and oceans without even a whisper of what anyone today might consider modern technology. But what if we could regain some of our lost evolutionary strength by simulating the environmental conditions of our forbears? Investigative journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney takes up the challenge to find out: Can we hack our bodies and use the environment to stimulate our inner biology?

People are less in touch with their bodies - and especially their breathing - than ever before. Ironically, athletes and others who pride themselves on taking care of their bodies actually put themselves at greater risk. Why? Because they’re asking their body to take on next-level demands, but failing at life’s most essential skill: efficient breathing.

Story
There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Thrive or die: That's the rule of evolution. Despite this brutal logic, some species have learned to survive in even the most hostile conditions. Others couldn't - and perished. While incremental genetic adaptations hone the physiology of nearly every creature on this planet, there's another evolutionary force that is just as important: the power of choice. In this explosive investigation into the limits of endurance, journalist Scott Carney discovers how humans can wedge control over automatic physiological responses into the breaking point between stress and biology.

Achieve more with less effort: The secret to weight loss, fitness, and wellness lies in the most basic and most overlooked function of your body - how you breathe. One of the biggest obstacles to better health and fitness is a rarely identified problem: chronic overbreathing. We often take many more breaths than we need without realizing it, contributing to poor health and fitness, including a host of disorders, from anxiety and asthma to insomnia and heart problems.

inspirational
This book tells Wim's back story and his methodology with his techniques and health mindset. I've read other comments about how it's 'repetitive' but it's more like he re-uses a prior mentioned example from his life to elaborate on a different concept. Some of it is very stream-of-consciousness... but that's what Wim is like anyway. makes for easy reading and repeatability. Wim Hof isn't your traditional health guru.

Jump into the Deep End!🧜🏽♀️🧜🏽♀️🧜🏽♀️
Fins down - The best audible book ever. I was thrilled to learn that Wim narrated the book. You are really hearing the stories from his heart, his soul, and there’s nothing better than from the source as we know. You can feel him open up to you when sharing knowledge and experiences from his life. I carved time most mornings to sit and have a cup of tea with Wim. It was like having a close friend sit with me and keep me company. Wim is wise and funny and makes good points in many departments. Most of all he was encouraging and one of the brightest stars and pattern/life changers we have on the planet right now. I like that Wim repeats scientific information throughout the book, which is a great way to learn, through repetition. The quality of the recording is most excellent, and it was not overproduced with annoying music fighting with Wim’s voice at any time. When there is music and another voice it is woven in gently, articulately, and a good match. Also an excellent book to listen to on highway drives. Wim has a great radio voice, mellow or charged up - whatever is appropriate. If you’re a Wim fan, I’m sure you will love sharing space with him. If you don’t know Wim’s work, it’s a great place to start. I’m left with questions for Wim, inspired, and looking forward to listening to it again. 🙏🏼

Missionary of Postmodernity
This is the best Audible ever! Wim Hof actually gets sat-chit-ananda and then shares it with a light sense of humor. His story telling ability is second to none. I mean, it's as if I'm in the same room with some long distant uncle as he shares his experiences. Listen to this audiobook because following the prescription is fun, educational and life changing.

Incoherent. Hours of soundbites patched together.
Love ya Wim, but you need some structure if you're going to teach. Wim basically gives his life story and one point for like 10 sessions?
