About this listen

Emma is the one that got away. The only survivor of a serial killer known in the tabloids as “The Hairdresser”, because of the trophies he takes from his victims.

The police aren't convinced. Nor is her husband. She never actually saw her tormentor properly, but now she recognizes him in every man she sees. Haunted by the horrifying incident and unwanted notoriety, Emma gives up her job as a psychiatrist and retreats from the outside world to recuperate at home, where it’s quiet. Where she can be anonymous and safe. Where no one can hurt her.

But when she accepts a mysterious package for an unknown neighbor, it triggers a disturbing series of events that leaves Emma questioning her sanity and fighting for her life. What exactly has she let into her home?

From international best-selling author Sebastian Fitzek, The Package is a bone-chilling psychological thriller with a dark and twisted narrative that will leave you breathless.

decent but not great

A bit hard to follow sometimes, mainly the blur between timelines and fantasy vs reality, and the surprise ending was somewhat predictable, but overall good.

Androcentric and Inaccurate

Very androcentric, which is really terrible when the main character is a woman. It felt like the thought and research put into the mental health aspect was next to nothing, as there were plenty of fallacious inaccuracies that were presented as if they were scientific fact and it seemed to have a rather old fashioned attitude towards women, mental health, and homosexuality. Overall an offensive waste of time and money.

has the author ever met a real life woman?

wow. just wow. educated academic psychiatrist giving a talk to other psychiatrists is obsessed with whether her bottom is too large and whether her hair is the right color? incredibly facile, vapid, and demeaning to any woman who has two brain cells to rub together. stick to male protagonists, my man.

It Gets Weird

I had low expectations of this book after reading the reviews and if you go in expecting crap, its better than expected. The main character is pretty pathetic (psychiatrist?) ok, And she has no coping skills, terrible at reading people in her life and the villain is creepy and weird, motive makes no sense, ruse makes no sense, obsession is gross. But, moves at a quick pace and a fast listen. Worth $2-$3 if on sale
