Good

It was almost exactly like the movie.
I enjoyed listening to it while I did art. It was morbid and funny. A great combo.

Better and more detailed than the Film.

So unlike the film, this novelization kept in key details that would have otherwise made the movie make more sense and just be plain better.
Don't get me wrong the film still had it's good moments mainly in The Loonies, but by God it was rough. Definitely some company meddling no doubt.

This book fleshes out and expands certain events from the movie, and that is the sole reason this is a good read. Too bad it takes the story from an already messy screenplay.

Cronin is still a great narrator! I've listened to all his Predator books now and he is just a mainstay for Predator stories at this point. He's a lot better here than he was in The Prequel novel, and even better in "Stalking Shadows (the newest book).

Can't wait to listen to another!

Typical Straight-To-Video Hollywood Fare

The key to accepting this Christopher Golden & Mark Morris novelization as "entertainment" is to drop any expectation of originality. I confess that I have never seen the film on which it is based - but have no desire to. I've seen it *hundreds* of times (under different names) at 2:00 AM on obscure TV Channels.
Handsome Indestructible American Supersoldier? Check. Beautiful Estranged Love Interest? Check. Sympathetic Cutesy/Misfit Kid? Check. Beautiful Badass Scientist Brought In To Study The Alien? Check. Lying, Self-interested Government bad guys? Check. The characters are "central casting" stock figures clearly intended to manipulate readers/listeners/viewers into formulating opinions & expectations. The action is heavily scripted and tailor-made for visual impact ("Cool!! It decloaked and blew that CIA guy's arm off!!") and the dialogue is cookie-cutter screenplay stuff (complete with carefully placed F-bombs and lame jokes for comic relief).
But what did you expect? This is a capable scene-by-scene transcription of a B-Movie. If you can manage to check your brain at the door, it's silly, campy fun (I couldn't, unfortunately.. but maybe you can).

In the recording's favor: Blackstone Audio Inc. cast the genuinely skilled James Patrick Cronin to read the book. True, he doesn't deliver anything that any other professional narrator couldn't have delivered.. but his spot-on diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting are accompanied by a surprising amount of interest in the book. Cronin doesn't sound as bored as I felt.

Altogether, if you can get this 5/10-star audiobook as an included 'Plus' selection, it's not a crazy way to while away a long drive or a quiet night shift (if you can muster the right mindset). Should they ask for a Credit, however, laugh in their faces and keep browsing. It's not good.
