Most startups don't fail because they can't build a product. Most startups fail because they can't get traction. Startup advice tends to be a lot of platitudes repackaged with new buzzwords, but Traction is something else entirely. As Gabriel Weinberg and Justin Mares learned from their own experiences, building a successful company is hard. For every startup that grows to the point where it can go public or be profitably acquired, hundreds of others sputter and die.

At the career level, your company's career ladder won't require that you work towards the next promotion; being promoted further is an exception rather than expected. This is also when many engineers are first given an opportunity to move into engineering management.

all the right things, no fluff
Excellent. everything actionable, no endless repeating like some nonfiction books can be, and tons of super important topics that few seem to talk about (burnout vs balance, acknowledgements of a Dev's reflex mindset and shifts to make, selling vs not ..) and focusing on the right things to pay attention to without getting overwhelmed.

Super thorough, really useful information, and read in a great way.
Rob does an awesome job of making listening to this book interesting. Not only is the content super useful, but it’s engaging to listen to because he adds in comments, jokes, and overall has a great reading style. I wish more business books were read like this.
