Publisher's Summary

This touching and hilarious memoir is 100 percent Carol Burnett—funny, irreverent, and irresistible.Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won twenty-five Emmys in its remarkable eleven-year run.

Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary “Went with the Wind” skit; and things that would happen only to Carol—the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

What the critics say

"These short memories, of the people Burnett met and interviewed over the years, on- and off-camera, bring it back — the golden age of variety shows....Burnett has a writer's eye for the moment, the detail, the slip that reveals character. She's never mean and always grateful."—Los Angeles Times

"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine.  We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do.  She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol. "—Billy Crystal

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough."—Julie Andrews

Glad, and Greatful for our Time Together

Five and a half hours in length but well worth the purchase, and listen. So greatful to have grown up in the era of The Carol Burnett Show and thanks to MeTV still able to enjoy the shows syndication today. Audible books availability has opened a world of adventures,Theatre’s of the Mind if you will. Had no idea there was a Book Worm within me all these years. Mom tried to encourage me to find and read a good book. Better late than never I guess, but Thanks Mom!,and thanks Carol!,glad we had this time together.🥰

Laughing and loved it

It’s one of the best books I’ve ever heard. Carol didn’t excellent job describing every avenue. I loved hearing the stories. Five stars all the way.

Powerful and Poignant

4.5
I listened to this book on audio and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is something about listening to a famous person’s memoir/biography and hearing their voice say the words that I find very special. Carol provided a lot of insights into her career, relationships with friends, and her family. While most of her anecdotes had me laughing so hard, I hurt, there were some that were very poignant. I’m not a huge fan of reading biographies, although I’ve found myself lately reading a few and the one other thing they all have in common is that they were about and read by a comedian.

I enjoyed getting a glimpse into Carol’s life, through her eyes and how what she shared touched her – some good, while others sorrowfully. This is a really good read/listen for fans of Carol Burnetts and those who enjoy reading/listening to someone’s biography. I highly recommend.

Having Tea with a Friend

So very nice. The telling of the different stories is as if Carol was sitting with you in your home just having a visit!
The way she tells the the different memories is so delightful and real and up lifting.
You laugh and cry with her, again,
as if she was sitting with you having a cup of tea.
Well worth the listen!
