Publisher's Summary

Change is afoot at Kings Lake Central police station. A most unexpected new detective inspector takes up his post this Monday morning, and the oldest detective in the place takes a momentous decision.

Around them, other officers are considering their own situations, and even the building itself seems to be facing an uncertain future. But life and death go on, nevertheless, and by lunchtime someone will make a grim discovery on the Norfolk saltmarshes. A stranger seems to have suffered a slow and agonizing death out there.

As the team from Kings Lake uncover his story, they reveal another, much older one with its origins far back in the previous century. In the tide that governs the affairs of men, it seems, love and loss, betrayal and revenge are timeless themes. Fans of Colin Dexter, P. D. James, and Ruth Rendell have all found much to enjoy in DC Smith's previous investigations.

Another great story with great heart

I have enjoyed every one of the DC Smith stories, and this latest was as good as the first. I can enjoy tough cop- tough bad guy novels but sometimes the violence wears on me. I love these stories of a copper with great respect for all people and an admirable moral compass. The dry wit catches me every time and I frequently laugh out loud. I will hate to say goodbye to this series when I am done.

A definite favourite!

I love the narrator and how he portrayed DC Smith. His sarcasm, humour and quick wit, surrounded by his a abundance of knowledge, never ceases to amaze me.
A great crime story, keeping me on my toes the whole way through.!

Have really enjoyed this series

Enjoyed the dry humour and clever comments winding through the story. Great character development and use of personalities.

Terrific Norfolk mystery from a master crime write

I really enjoyed the production - good geographical lesson with grand characters and a superb narrator.

Accent a bit off putting.

Overall I enjoyed it. if there was anything nagging at me at all it was the very poor attempt at a Welsh accent that never improved at all. And the in-depth description of nonessentials to fill in the blanks gave me a good opportunity to occasionally nod off.

A complex and enjoyable story

Well paced and full of interesting procedural detail. Includes a great Welsh character beautifully performed by Gildart Jackson.

Time and Tide by Peter Grainger read by Gildert Ja

Another episode of D.C. Smith. I am enjoying following his career and his sympathetic outlook on the ways of humanity.
our reader does a fine job of pulling you in .
There is a subtle theme here showing how, as the world changes we see the changing tide of police work has evolved and still needing some of the older man's wisdom to break the case. excellent stories.

Love these books

Characters are completely believable both in the writing and the lovely nuanced performance. Sometimes I can’t believe there’s only one actor.
Stories are detailed but never rambling.
