Publisher's Summary

A guide to some of the world’s most fascinating places, as seen and experienced by writer, television host, and relentlessly curious traveler Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain saw more of the world than nearly anyone. His travels took him from the hidden pockets of his hometown of New York to a tribal longhouse in Borneo, from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Paris, and Shanghai to Tanzania’s utter beauty and the stunning desert solitude of Oman’s Empty Quarter - and many places beyond.

In World Travel, a life of experience is collected into an entertaining, practical, fun and frank travel guide that gives listeners an introduction to some of his favorite places - in his own words. Featuring essential advice on how to get there, what to eat, where to stay and, in some cases, what to avoid, World Travel provides essential context that will help listeners further appreciate the reasons why Bourdain found a place enchanting and memorable.

Supplementing Bourdain’s words are a handful of essays by friends, colleagues, and family that tell even deeper stories about a place, including sardonic accounts of traveling with Bourdain by his brother, Christopher; a guide to Chicago’s best cheap eats by legendary music producer Steve Albini.

For veteran travelers, armchair enthusiasts, and those in between, World Travel offers a chance to experience the world like Anthony Bourdain.

The audiobook is read by Laurie Woolever, Shep Gordon, Christopher Bourdain, Jen Agg, Matt Walsh, Bill Buford, Claude Tayag, Nari Kye, Vidya Balachander, and Steve Albini.

Sad to say I didn't Like it

I think I'd rather have had clips of Anthony sharing - I found the narrator's voice extremely irritating as were several of the other guest speakers. I guess no one would have been as engaging and entertaining as the King himself. I just found it so anti-climatic and sad. Why even do this? What did you have to offer that was new that hadn't been done by Toni himself?

Enjoyable

I wasn’t sure what to expect of this book, especially as it was finished after Tony’s death, but his co-author did a good job of compiling the book they planned together. It is a bit awkward, part travel journal, part culinary indulgences and part travel guide, but I got used to it. I appreciated Tony’s brother narrating the pieces that were in Tony’s voice, a nice touch. Keep your expectations low and you’ll probably enjoy it.

took a few minutes, grew to love it

a bit of a different sort of thing - part Bourdain, part editorial and a lot of different parts put together. Really grew to love it though as an easy but fascinating listen.

Will have to go back and get details.

great stories with a food theme, of course. Not the same without the the man himself, telling you the stories though.

Was expecting a bit more

I understand the unfortunate circumstances around this book but it really feels incomplete or poorly currated. Why countries like Denmark, Germany, Russia, Sweden, and Turkey are omitted is baffling. Too much attention was given to US cities and they still skipped San Francisco. Even if Tony didn't write about them, he covered those places on his shows and there could have been more anecdotes that others could have shared.

Desapointant

Je suis déçu. Ce n'était pas intéressant. Très monotone. Les autres livres d'Anthony Bourdain étaient 1000 fois plus intéressant. la déception est que c'est de l'information - on ne retrouve AB nulle part.
