Fin du XVIIème siècle à la Cour d'Espagne, un grand seigneur disgracié, don Salluste, décide de se venger de la reine en substituant à son cousin don César de Bazan son valet Ruy Blas. Celui-ci, aimé de la reine, devient Premier Ministre. Don Salluste révèle au bout de quelques mois son identité à la reine. Ruy Blas tue son maître puis s'empoisonne, non sans avoir obtenu le pardon de la reine.

Véritable ouvrage dramatique, "Claude Gueux" met en scène la dure réalité des classes ouvrières dans les années 1830. Le personnage est ici victime du blâme de la justice contre ceux qui tentent de s'en sortir malgré leur vie difficile : condamné à l'emprisonnement pour avoir tenté de nourrir ses enfants, Claude Gueux se verra plus tard confronté à l'injustice criminelle des détenteurs du pouvoir.

The archdeacon of Notre Dame, Claude Frollo, falls in lust with Esmerelda, a gypsy dancer who is much admired in Paris. At his instruction, Quasimodo, the hunchbacked bell-ringer of Notre Dame who he has befriended, kidnaps her. Esmerelda is rescued by Phoebus de Chateaupers (Captain of the Royal Archers) and she falls mistakenly in love with his bravery when he is, in reality, something of a rogue and a braggart.

Les Contemplations de Victor Hugo est un recueil de poésies écrites entre 1834 et 1855. In the Gothic towers of the cathedral of Notre-Dame - which has been subjected to decades of degradation and neglect - lives its bell ringer, Quasimodo. Les jours heureux s’écoulent sur la petite île de Guernesey. Gilliat, le plus doué, sans doute, des marins de l’île tombe secrètement amoureux de Déruchette, fille adoptive de Mess Lethierry, un armateur et un notable de l’île, sans espoir car qui est-il pour espèrer pouvoir lui plaire. Mais voilà qu’à la suite d’un sabotage, le bateau de Mess Lethierry, un steamer nommé la Durande, s’échoue sur de dangereux récifs.

Le destin de Jean Valjean, forçat échappé du bagne, est bouleversé par sa rencontre avec Fantine. Mourante et sans le sou, celle-ci lui demande de prendre soin de Cosette, sa fille confiée aux Thénardier. Ce couple d'aubergistes, malhonnête et sans scrupules, exploitent la fillette jusqu'à ce que Jean Valjean tienne sa promesse et l'adopte. Cosette devient alors sa raison de vivre. Mais son passé le rattrape et l'inspecteur Javert le traque.
