Quite clearly, Joss Wheedon - the screenwriter for the 1997 film - was told to craft an AlienTM vehicle for Sigourney Weaver ($$$)..

The result is a story that starts with an obligatory but promising SciFi genetic manipulation premise.. but quickly turns into fairly mindless action-adventure when some monsters escape into the Military Research Station to wreak havoc - mixed with frankly weird "Are you my mother?" themes.
Novelization writer A.C.Crispin does a nice job injecting inner dialogue and remembered quotes from earlier films in the franchise into the story that add nicely to the script (e.g. "..why do grown-ups tell little kids that there are no monsters.. when there are?"). This is an effective interpretation.. but the author didn't have much to work with.

Fortuitously for audiobook aficionados, reader William Hope understands the assignment - injecting emotiveness into his performance when fear/anger is called for and portraying robotic Android/AI voices commendably. His narration is by no means flawless, but solidly "above-average".

Altogether, I rate 'Alien: Resurrection - The Official Movie Novelization' worthy of 6 stars out of 10. It's appropriately on the 'Plus' menu - a reasonable distraction for free - but doesn't merit a Credit should they ask for one.
