I know my daughter better than I know myself, and if there’s one thing I know for sure at this moment it's that Maisie is not okay.

My ex-husband, Shaun, and I are still friends. We would do anything for our beautiful little girl, Maisie. But now Shaun has moved in with Joanne, and suddenly Maisie has a brand-new family. And there’s something not quite right about it....

I know Joanne isn’t everything she says she is. Yet no-one will listen. I need to discover what she’s hiding. Because if I don’t, my daughter will be in terrible danger.

The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the Kindle top five best-selling author K. L. Slater. If you love The Girl on the Train or Gone Girl, you’ll be absolutely hooked.

The narrator was really good. But sadly that’s the only good thing about this story. Definitely not a thriller. If anything it’s more sad because this poor child is suffering and no one seems to care or listen to her. The whole time I’m either really sad for this young girl or really angry and annoyed with all the other characters. The ending was very rushed and a bit confusing and we’re left to just assume what happens to everyone.

Not a thriller

This was my first time listening to an audio book and loved both the narration and the story itself. It was great to have on my commute to/from work.

Great experience!

Quite repetitive. Rushed ending.
But I finished it. The performance was truly excellent as always.

It was ok.

K.L. Slater is actually a much better writer than this book would suggest. To be sure, the vocabulary/prose is capable, the characters are deliciously dysfunctional (verging on pathological), and Slater's signature multi-perspective/multi-timeline storytelling technique is effective - but the adolescent psychological breakdown narrative is annoyingly melodramatic and the author's characteristic unexpected "twist" ending is out-of-nowhere & hard to swallow. She definitely didn't deliver on this one.

Despite overall above-average reading from Lucy Price-Lewis, the narration quality is likewise unexpectedly subpar. Price-Lewis's diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing remain spot-on - and her voice-acting is impressive - but she sounds relatively disinterested on this project for some reason.

Taken in toto, 'Closer' is one of the weaker Slater offerings that I have encountered. The author's books are definitely worth the read.. but this 5.5/10-star audiobook is appropriately offered as a 'Plus' selection.

Your Credit would be better spent on another of this writer's novels.

I thought this started out very interesting with unique characters and plot, it kept my attention for the most part. Then the last few chapters had a few random rushed twists and wrapped up so fast .....like the author couldn't wait to be done with it. disappointing
