Robert Waggoner
About this listen
Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self is the account of an extraordinarily talented lucid dreamer who goes beyond the boundaries of both psychology and religion. In the process, he stumbles upon the Inner Self.
While lucid (consciously aware) in the dream state and able to act and interact with dream figures, objects, and settings, dream expert Robert Waggoner experienced something transformative and unexpected. He was able to interact consciously with the dream observer - the apparent Inner Self - within the dream. At first this seemed shocking, even impossible, since psychology normally alludes to such theoretical inner aspects as the Subliminal Self, the Center, and the Internal Self-Helper in vague and theoretical ways. Waggoner came to realize, however, that aware interaction with the Inner Self was not only possible, but actual and highly inspiring. He concluded that while aware in the dream state, one has both a psychological tool and a platform from which to understand dreaming and the larger picture of man's psyche as well.
Waggoner proposes 5 stages of lucid dreaming and guides listeners through them, offering advice for those who have never experienced the lucid dream state and suggestions for how experienced lucid dreamers can advance to a new level. Lucid Dreaming offers exciting insights and vivid illustrations that will intrigue not only avid dreamworkers but anyone who is interested in consciousness, identity, and the definition of reality.

Story
It is said that the practice of dream yoga deepens our awareness during all our experience: the dreams of the night; the dream-like experience of the day; and the bardo experiences after death. Indeed, the practice of dream yoga is a powerful tool of awakening, used for hundreds of years by the great masters of the Tibetan traditions. Unlike in the Western psychological approach to dreams, the ultimate goal of Tibetan dream yoga is the recognition of the nature of mind or enlightenment itself.

fantastic book
I found Robert Waggoner through his interviews and lectures on you tube. He has been the primary source for me learning how to lucid dream which has been a truly life changing experience. This book is great and is everything I thought it would be. An extremely valuable tool for anyone serious about exploring the depths of what is possible with lucid dreaming. I've searched for other experts on lucid dreaming but there's something about Robert Waggoner that just speaks to me. He covers a lot of ground and what he says just makes sense. I already purchased his next book and I'm going to start it right away.

This book is loosely stated impractical nonsense
I listened to Laberge's book on lucid dreaming before trying this one, and I am so glad I did. His book explains it conceptually and how to practice it, and gives meaningful advice about how to learn it and what you can do with it. This book by Waggoner was selectively good in certain brief periods where I was able to read between the lines of the stories he was telling which confirmed a few patterns I learned about in Laberge's book, and it has a few actually good ideas about how to interact with the dreams effectively. But after the first half of the book I haven't heard anything useful and have just been listening to a bunch of unverifiable stories about people having dreams where they can heal other people or have out of body experiences, and it just asks wild questions that would serve to lead new learners in a weird direction. I think this book is only partially good as a supplement after having learned it first from someone who explains it properly, but you have to use tons of critical thinking when listening to this in order to not just accept all of it. If you do get the audiobook, brace yourself for when the guy makes the 'healing tone' sound effect a bunch of times.
