Publisher's Summary

The Convent is the shocking true story of Marie Hargreaves, the girl who survived an evil nun’s care home from hell.

When a fancy car pulls up outside six-year-old Marie's home in 1959, her dad tells her she is going on holiday. But little does she know she will not see her home again for four long years. Her family cannot afford to keep her at home. Marie tells the story of how she was taken away from a poor but happy and loving home life to live in a convent - away from everyone and everything she holds dear. Her hair is bluntly chopped, her clothes are taken away and her name is changed. Then a horrific ritual of physical, sexual and mental abuse begins. Even after the convent closes, Marie is unable to share details of her suffering with anyone. But when a police investigation is launched, Marie realises that the time has come to tell the truth....

An excellent book

A heart wrenching, heartbreaking story about religious abuse.
I don’t know how she was able to forgive after all the abuse she went through.
I’m so thankful for my childhood.

Mind boggling

This I sure happened over and over again to many children for eons. Maybe still does???? Ugh
My heart still hurts for the abused children.

Brave Women

This story was profoundly sad, mostly because it is true, but also because of the power evil has over innocence. Having said this, it also makes me proud of the strength of women and the power of love, compassion, kindness and forgiveness we can possess through adversity. Excellent read.

The Catholic Church strikes, again...

Sad story. Like so many other stories of abuse by the Catholic church there is rarely any real, justice. All we can hope for is healing. Good story, well done.

Heartbreaking

As tough as it was to listen. It was also an eye opener as to the abuse that went on in Convents, and other places children would be sent to. Heartbreaking and Shameful, that such had gone on to these young children.

Great Read and Fitting in our current events

Reading this book is fitting as the Catholic Church is denying and trying to ignore what they have done to First Nations children.
When do they become accountable?
