About this listen

Be energized, but not overwhelmed.

What’s the most pressure you’ve ever been under? How did you react? What helped? What didn’t? Over the past five years, Dane Jensen has asked these questions of thousands of high performers - from Olympic gold medalists to Navy SEALs, politicians, executives, and busy parents. What has emerged from these conversations is that while everyone’s experiences under pressure are unique, pressure follows patterns and develops in predictable ways. If we can recognize the patterns, we can improve our ability to sidestep the biological traps that can sabotage us - and use the energy that accompanies pressure to thrive.

The Power of Pressure combines the insights gathered from Jensen’s work with the latest research in biology and neuroscience to help you:

  • Understand and use the “pressure equation” of importance, uncertainty, and volume
  • Escape the traps of pressure with effective tools and tactics
  • Be ambidextrous so that you can handle pressure both in peak pressure moments and over the long haul
  • Reduce tension, sleep better, and have more energy so that you can meet challenges head-on
  • Recognize pressure moments so that you can prepare for when you will likely the feel the heat
  • Leverage strategies so that you can give everything you’ve got when it’s most important
  • And more!

How we navigate our highest-pressure moments has a huge impact on the overall trajectory of our lives, both in terms of how successful we are and how much we enjoy the journey along the way.

Pressure is a double-edged sword.

Sometimes a win is not a win, other times a loss is not a loss. Think of the opportunity cost and gain. Jensen does a great work in zooming in and zooming out to understand the power of pressure.

A quick & thought-provoking read

Full of inspiring stories and practical, relevant insights, this book is a must read for anyone pursuing growth in today’s world. Dane breaks down our understanding of pressure so it is not something to be feared, rather something we can harness with the right preparation, tools and mentality. Leaders who understand these principles will surely be more effective at building strong and resilient cultures. A thought-provoking and enjoyable read, I’m already recommending it to several others.

Pressure as a Super Power

I really enjoyed listening to this book. the narrator was perfect for the type of material and had just the right tone to convey critical pieces of information.

The book itself had a wide variety of anecdotes to support the central thesis of optimized performance through pressure. The whole book really resonated with me and what I do for a job. It was very validating to discover I already had some great habits. Now I have even more things to try and build into my life and help my teammates discover as well.

A very worthwhile read.

Amazing book, criminally underrated

I loved this audiobook so much. Not merely life changing, but potentially life saving as well. Half way through the audio I purchased the hardcover as well as I will be referencing this book at challenging moments for the rest of my life.

Spectacular Read for High Performers

What made this book unique is its Canadian content. It is so refreshing to read a book of this caliber, which intentionally puts Canadian high performers in the spotlight. As a Canadian who lived in the States for 15 years, when I embark on a personal growth journey through a book, I assume that I'll be reading about American success stories. Jensen's purposeful focus on Canadian role models made this read as relatable as it was inspiring.

Jensen strikes a perfect balance of thoughtful research and meaningful, real-life examples of the theories in action. In so doing, he emboldens the reader to put the theories to the test too. The discussion includes a complementary blend of Olympic athletes, Emergency doctors, corporate heads, and other community leaders. This makes Jensen's recommendations feel attainable, and yet, it motivates the reader to push just beyond the comfort zone, to strive to do what the elite performers can do.

The "Fortunately/Unfortunately" game highlights the importance of gratitude. And both extroverts and introverts are guided towards healthy, meaningful social relationships that still allow them to remain true to their authentic selves. This is a relevant read for Canadians who want to leverage their everyday pressures to lead more fulfilling, productive lives.
