About this listen
What happens when you eat an apple? The answer is vastly more complex than you imagine.
Whole, a New York Times bestseller and an eye-opening, paradigm-changing journey through cutting-edge thinking on nutrition, is a scientific tour de force with powerful implications for our health and for our world.
Every apple contains thousands of antioxidants whose names, beyond a few like vitamin C, are unfamiliar to us, and each of these powerful chemicals has the potential to play an important role in supporting our health. They impact thousands upon thousands of metabolic reactions inside the human body. But calculating the specific influence of each of these chemicals isn’t nearly sufficient to explain the effect of the apple as a whole. Because almost every chemical can affect every other chemical, there is an almost infinite number of possible biological consequences—and that’s just from an apple.
Nutritional science, long stuck in a reductionist mindset, is at the cusp of a revolution. The traditional gold standard of nutrition research has been to study one chemical at a time in an attempt to determine its particular impact on the human body. These sorts of studies are helpful to food companies trying to prove there is a chemical in milk or prepackaged dinners that is “good” for us, but they provide little insight into the complexity of what actually happens in our bodies or how those chemicals contribute to our health.
In The China Study, T. Colin Campbell revolutionized the way we think about our food with the evidence that a whole food, plant-based diet is the healthiest way to eat. Now, in Whole, he explains the science behind that evidence, the ways our current scientific paradigm ignores the fascinating complexity of the human body, and why, if we have such overwhelming evidence that everything we think we know about nutrition is wrong, our eating habits haven’t changed.

A must read for your health.
The author states what many of us already know. Having someone with his credentials get into the details is very enlightening.

The truth is a stubborn thing!
This book is a well deserved slap across the face to all the subhumans in our society who help maintain virtually everyone in ignorance about nutrition to profit from the ensuing sick and diseased population.
Dr Campbell shares his unique top level expertise and experience to bring the listener to a higher level of comprehension about nutrition and a clear understanding of why health is not promoted by the government and the health care system.
Truly the best book if your health is something you happen to care about.

great explaining of current medical approach
I truly appreciate the way Dr. Campbell presented this material in simple yet in historical and detailed way, I also appreciate that it was made available for audible members for free,
Dr. Campbell was honest in his approach to approach this sensitive topic of nutrition as he started his journey on animal products and finding his way through research to the fact that it is not as healthy as thought of. instead, the real approach to health should be through whole food plant-based yet low fat diet.
thank you,

Clear, concise and understandable
I enjoyed the update and synopsis almost as much as the full-length China Study. Whether you agree with his standing on nutrition or not it's hard not to be compelled into further action by the explanation of reductionism and influence of money on our nutrition knowledge. #Audible1

WFPB
I am familiar with Dr. Campbell, the China Study and his research. as such, his recommendations of a whole food plant based (WFPB) lifestyle was not a surprise.
What I did not expect and thoroughly enjoyed are his thoughts on reductionism versus wholism and how well he explained the dynamics and interests involved, the vicious cycles industry, government and sciense fimd themselves in. He makes a compelling case showing the malicious manipulation of public interest - when it comes to health - for individual gain.
Besides being a book written by an acclaimed scientist, it is a book with much wisdom and insight. A reflection of it's authors life experience.
Very glad I read it, 5 stars all around.

thank you for sharing your life's work.
great analysis of the current understanding of nutrition and health. Also excellent exposition of the reductionist method in the scientific world and how most regulatory bodies have been captured by industry.
