À propos de cet audio
"The pairing of Reynolds's narration with Sullivan's multilayered storytelling is outstanding." — AudioFile Magazine
A daughter vanishes. Two rogues are paid a fortune to find her. It isn't enough.
When Gabriel Winter's daughter mysteriously disappears and is presumed dead, the wealthy whiskey baron seeks revenge. Having lived in Colnora during the infamous Year of Fear, he hires the one man he knows can deliver a bloody retribution — the notorious Duster.
Ride with Royce and Hadrian as the cynical ex-assassin and idealistic ex-mercenary travel to a mysterious old-world city filled with nobles claiming descent from imperial aristocracy. Riyria's job appears easy: discover what happened to the missing duchess and, if she lives, bring her home...if not, punish those responsible. But nothing is simple in the crowded, narrow, mist-filled streets of Rochelle, where more than one ancient legend lurks.

The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. Ce que les critiques en disent
"Fans will rejoice in Tim Gerard Reynolds's return to narrate the latest adult fantasy featuring professional thieves Hadrian and Royce. The pairing of Reynolds's narration with Sullivan's multilayered storytelling is outstanding. Reynolds's sense of the heroes' personalities makes the bantering dialogue a joy to hear and enhances the tale's humor and emotional depths." (AudioFile)

Not sure how to feel
This one started slow, but finished strong.
This is in keeping with the quality of MJS work. BUT, I can’t help but feel, (having completed the series in chronological order rather than order of publication), that this was kinda like watching the extended edition of a movie. Same characters with just enough new material to say “oh, that make sense” I still enjoyed the book, but to use another metaphor, it was like going back to an old fling, comfortable, but the spark wasn’t what it once was. So in conclusion, I’m both glad and upset that the author has brought Royce and Hadrian back to life.

Will never get tired of Riyria
Please, please keep bringing us exciting and thrilling adventures of Riyria. Sullivan creates yet another epic tale of Hadrian and Royce finding themselves interlocked with a job that leaves much more beyond the surface. How these two interact and bring the story together is unmatched, sorry Batman and Robin, you've been bumped.

The best Riyria Chronicles book yet
Having started with the Riyria Revelations, I was really excited for the Chronicles, as they let me continue on with these characters, and learn more about them. While the Chronicles have been good, so far, they didn't capture my imagination in quite the same way that the Revelations did. That changed with this fourth instalment. I felt that Royce and Hadrian finally came into their own in a way I hadn't previously seen in this series. The story was riveting, had some great twists and turns, and the narration was stellar, as usual. Tim Gerard Reynolds is absolutely the voice of this series for me, and he doesn't disappoint here.
I highly recommend the book. It's great for those familiar with the Riyria universe, but stands alone effectively as well, if you're looking for a good read without attempting a series.
