About this listen

When an industrial spy steals a Xenomorph egg, former Colonial Marine Zula Hendricks must prevent an alien from killing everyone on an isolated colony planet.

Venture, a direct rival to the Weyland-Yutani corporation, will accept any risk to crush the competition. Thus, when a corporate spy "acquires" a bizarre, leathery egg from a hijacked vessel, she takes it directly to the Venture testing facility on Jericho 3.

Though unaware of the danger it poses, the scientists there recognize their prize's immeasurable value. Early tests reveal little, however, and they come to an inevitable conclusion. They need a human test subject....

Enter Zula Hendricks.

A member of the Jericho 3 security staff, Colonial Marines veteran Zula Hendricks has been tasked with training personnel to deal with anything the treacherous planet can throw their way. Yet nothing can prepare them for the horror that appears - a creature more hideous than any Zula has encountered before.

Unless stopped, it will kill every human being on the planet.

Not bad

Despite what many of the other reviews claim: this title wasn't bad. It is true that Waggoner's ability to create characters is seemingly limited by comparison to Alex White's latest contributions to the Alien franchise; but, the book was still entertaining. It was interesting to witness the deadliest killing machine in sci-fi history reach a whole new level of dangerous. Solid enough book.

I love this story and the narration, amazing.

The story is awesome as always but this narrator is so talented. Love her work. Thankyou!

Almost perfect

Really good, but suffered from unnecessary woke details in some scenes. Didn't follow the rules of Chekovs gun; if it doesn't add anything to the story, don't include it. Early on a character is described as being trans, for quite literally no reason. Zula also blames a lot on racism/sexism despite it never coming up; and characters have good reason not to trust her judgement based on backstory.

Horror was good, the alien being mutated was a more unique premise. Was also very neat to see some scenes on its perspective. Though some of its actions and biology aren't consistent with established Alien lore.

Overall it was a good experience, the parts that were actually Alien fit mostly well; but some failings on either the Author or Editor keep it from being perfect. I'd likely listen to one of the other Alien audiobooks like Out of The Shadows before coming back to this.

An Exciting Variation

Just when you think you have the Xenomorphs figured out... they throw us another curve ball.

Not a lot of surprises

A typical book of this variety. Quite predictable but still entertaining enough to take your mind off the world for a while.

"Decent" Alien Audiobook

Tim Waggoner throws a couple of interesting twists at the "murderous xenomorph on the loose" concept. The creature escapes from a Weyland-Yutani competitor into a neighborhood-like colonial community this time - and it also spreads a horrifying virus ("Cellular Necrosis") into the air and on contact.
The original innovations work well.. injecting new horrors into an already clever monster scenario (armored carapace, acid blood, unparalleled viciousness, spear-like barbed powerful piercing tail, giant fangs dripping saliva, flashing extending inner jaws.. not to mention face huggers and chest bursters).
It's far from perfect, but Waggoner's vision is fun

Unhelpfully for audiobook consumers, reader Sarah Mollo-Christensen narrates with significant overenunciation and a persistent breathless reading timbre that gets annoying after a few hours. This is one of the better performances that I have heard from her, but Blackstone Publishing Inc. could have cast this project better.

Altogether, 'Alien: Prototype' is a rollercoaster-ride Alien(TM) adventure - worth 6.5 stars out of 10. It was a brilliant way to spend a couple of quiet afternoons as a 'Plus' selection.. but not worth a Credit.

[Note: Waggoner relishes describing pain & gory death among the creature's victims from the first-person POV: prepare for nauseating descriptions of what it feels like to have a monster tear its way through your sternum]

Just average.

No main characters.
Descriptions of what the alien is doing always seemed unclear.
Not a terrible book.
But only memorable for the hybrid type of alien.

robotic natrator

I got to chapter three and realized I had no idea what was going on because the narrator is so monotonous I zoned out. shes quite robotic and there's no emotion which made interactions with Xenomorphs boring.
