About this listen

The official prequel leading into the upcoming Aliens cooperative third-person survival shooter video game, Aliens: Fireteam, from Cold Iron Studios.

Dr. Timothy Hoenikker arrives on Pala Station, a Weyland-Yutani facility. Lured there by the promise of alien artifacts, instead he finds a warped bureaucracy and staff of misfits testing the effects of Xenomorph bio-materials on living creatures. Unbeknownst to the personnel, however, there is an infiltrator among them whose actions could spell disaster.

Also on staff is Victor Rawlings, a former marine who gathers together other veterans to prepare for the worst. As the personnel receive a delivery of alien eggs, the experiments spin out of control, and only the former Colonial Marines can stand between the humans and certain death.

satisfied

I was in the space action, and this was satisfying. It's not great art but that's not the expectation. The reader is very good. I think he read Matterhorn, which I liked (a Vietnam War novel.) I am also listening to prepare to play the Colonial Marines video game for Xbox, it was nice that this book was free with membership if you're in the mood for aliens go for it

A must if you play Aliens:fireteams

Great prequel to the video game absolutely fills in some of the lore blanks. I thought the narrator was good although his female voices were weak, but that's not super surprising or unexpected. The story was a lot of fun and for extra credit you can try to count how many times they say "Colonial Marines".

Masterful production!

Bronson Pinchot did a great job narrating this book. It had a solid storyline and characters. I really enjoyed the exploration of themes like culpability, responsibility, scientific hubris, self reflection and transformation. 6/5 stars!

SO GOOD!…. until the ending.

Awesome, original premise.
“What does it look like to work for WY Corp if they DID get their hands on an alien for experiments”

Halfway through, there were no real main characters which is the bane of all Alien sequels.
Then you start liking and getting to know a few.

Then it got good until the last 2 min. Adding an extra, not needed twist. Ended so abruptly. Leaving readers unsatisfied.

One of the best Aliens so far

More than your usual cat and mouse. I've read a bunch so far and this one is on top?

Finally a a change in the Aliens format.

Every book and movie has been the same. This one is different. I’m great full for it. Hope you it as much as I did.

Not Great

This story fell quite far from the expectations of an Alien audiobook. It is sadly fitting that it is the predecessor to an equally failed video game. I truly tried to find enjoyment in this book, however, it took me a lot longer than neccessary to finish it as I was constantly disappointed and just wanted to stop listening.
If you have already listened to Alien Phalanx then you'll understand that Bronson Pinchot does a good job narrating, it just takes some getting used to. I feel that in this story he may have tried too hard to add to a weak plot by over-enunciating.
Overall I would give this a 3 out of 10. I highly doubt I'll listen to it again and to anyone attempting this journey for a first time, good luck. May you find more enjoyment than I was able to.

Not Great, Not Terrible

The story gets off to a good start, but falls into the familiar beats of an Aliens novel.

Bronson Pinchot has a great voice, but his performance makes me cringe. His characters are overdone and often grating.
