Publisher's Summary

From Lisa Taddeo, author of the number one New York Times best seller and global phenomenon Three Women, comes an “intoxicating” (Entertainment Weekly), “fearless” (Los Angeles Times), and “explosive” (People) novel about “what happens when women are pushed beyond the brink, and what comes after the reckoning” (Esquire).

Joan has spent a lifetime enduring the cruelties of men. But when one of them commits a shocking act of violence in front of her, she flees New York City in search of Alice, the only person alive who can help her make sense of her past. In the sweltering hills above Los Angeles, Joan unravels the horrific event she witnessed as a child - that has haunted her every waking moment - while forging the power to finally strike back.

Animal is a depiction of female rage at its rawest, and a visceral exploration of the fallout from a male-dominated society.

I love a story that’s raw and real in the most hurtful way

If you are a fan of She’s Come Undone, Dark Vanessa, or White Oleander, this book is for you! It is written with a realness that will hurt your heart. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this gem!

I am losing my mind this book is so good

I kid you not I am genuinely emotional about how good this was. Emma Roberts narrates it so well too. Her voice perfectly matches the insane/creepy/cool feel of the story really well.

Wow

The writing in this book is incredible. I wanted to bookmark everything. It has a simplistic quality to an overwhelmingly complex story. It is very much a study of the woman experience. The main character, Joan, is wild and raw , yet delicate and contained.

absolutely tedious and dreadful

I tried. For two whole hours and I just cannot continue. Emma Roberts should stick to acting. This narration is painful. Stilted and overly placid. Just terrible. The story moves way too slow as a consequence of this narration therefore the listener just cannot engage. What demographic of listeners gave those glowing reviews?! Friends and family of the author?
