This is the third macabre book I’ve listened to in a row; the sequence being Aron Beauregard’s The Slob, Playground and now Dead Inside. I would argue that this is the most messed up title yet in my sequence.

While Aron Beauregard features extreme violence and graphic rape, Dead Inside shines the light on other, more messed up topics. Featuring necrophilia, cannibalism and dead baby rape, the amount of storytelling and plot that actually goes into this is surprising.

I wasn’t a fan of the narrator. I understand that the character is written to sound like an edgy anime main character but the narrator truly emulated it. The way he emphasises the word cunt every time it (gratuitously) pops up makes me cringe every time. There is both character progression and character regression and it’s actually an interesting little plot line.

The main character feels like if Dexter went to the next extreme. I expected brutal violence but ended up getting a little more than I expected. The author gives us all the hints for the - fairly ineffective - “twist ending” and allows us to piece everything together before the main character does.

All in all I can’t say I hated this as much as I hated the main character.

This is one of the most disgusting books I've ever read and I couldn't put it down. If you read this comment, please read all the trigger warning before starting this. it is extremely fucked up, completely deranged and absolutely wonderfully written and performed.

Definitely wish I did more research before picking this one up, it simply just wasn't for me. Though I absolutely see the appeal to the people who sing this books praise.
To me this reads as an intentional parody. It goes and it goes FAR. The main protagonist is an over the top edgelord who does edgy things that feel like something a middle school boy would come up with to gross you out. In another author's hands this would probably turn me off to the book completely, but the way it's written had a comedic edge that makes those disgusting scenes laughable. Which makes you feel grosser in the process, which feels intentional.
Though I can't see myself ever revisiting this one. The gross-out nature of it is too much for me, espesially /that/ scene.
The book accomplishes what it sets out to do, but what it sets out to do just isnt something for me. Proceed with caution if you're a newbie to this kind of splatterpunk horror.

I checked this book out as it was recommended as the most disturbing book a few people have read. it's so immaturely written I was quite disappointed. wording solely for a reaction and no debth to much of it. narrator did ok though
