A New York Times bestseller | A Good Morning America Book Club Pick

Chosen as a best book of the year by
The New York Times | Time | NPR | USA Today | Elle | Harper’s Bazaar | Town & Country | Vogue | BBC | POPSUGAR | Goodreads | theSkimm

“The season’s first beach read, a delicious romp of a debut featuring family crises galore.”—
The New York Times

“A delicious new Gilded Age family drama… a guilty pleasure that also feels like a sociological text.” —
Vogue

A deliciously funny, sharply observed debut of family, love, and class, this zeitgeisty novel follows three women in one wealthy Brooklyn clan

Darley, the eldest daughter in the well-connected old money Stockton family, followed her heart, trading her job and her inheritance for motherhood but giving up far too much in the process; Sasha, a middle-class New England girl, has married into the Brooklyn Heights family, and finds herself cast as the arriviste outsider; and Georgiana, the baby of the family, has fallen in love with someone she can’t have, and must decide what kind of person she wants to be.

Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

What the critics say

“A delicious new Gilded Age family drama—almost a satire—set in the leafy enclaves of Brooklyn Heights....A lighthearted book that captures a slice of New York society, a guilty pleasure that also feels like a sociological text, punctuated with very particular references to restaurants, preschools, nightclubs, and other pillars of urban life in 2023.” Vogue

“Those who want to eat the rich may salivate while reading Pineapple Street...This breezy read is the bookish equivalent of an effervescent Netflix dramedy. Expect to be entertained.” –The Wall Street Journal

“A smart comedy of manners… The moment when a good writer transforms an everyday detail about cheese cubes into an observation about the casual cruelties of class hierarchy — remains as jolting as getting or throwing a pie in the face. Here’s to being the thrower!” —Maureen Corrigan, Fresh Air

Slow but good

The book was enjoyable but could have moved a little faster in my humble opinion

A book about nothing.

I wish I could say this book was funny, or the characters were engaging, or there was any sort of plot beyond the minutiae of a boring family’s relationships. There is nothing going on here beyond a few, rather flat story points. This book had no tension and was utterly one dimensional. The hype is all marketing. Skip.

Very entertaining book!

I wish in the rating system we were able to give a rating that included a decimal, as this book describes it IMO. I would honestly give this book 4.5/⭐️. However, I can’t and won’t round up because I couldn’t give it 5⭐️ if I’m giving an honest opinion and review. It just did blow me away like that!

From reading other reviews I think my impression & opinion of this book is very different from others because I am an only child. I enjoyed reading about the family dynamics, the sibling dynamics honestly grabbed my attention in all this right ways!! Although not my favourite book I’ve read so far this year. It truly isn’t off by much and I definitely recommend reading it!!

Marin Ireland amazing reader story slow burn

I was never a fan of audiobooks until I heard Marin Ireland’s amazing skills at channeling the voices of the characters. The book’s message about how to live with honesty and integrity is really subtle, and important. I enjoyed the story but imagine it would be most interesting and useful for someone from the world of New York elites. Highly recommend anything read by Marin Ireland as solo reader! She is the best!!!

A great summer read

It was like Brooklyn was a character in the book. I really enjoyed seeing the growth and evolution of each character.

strong setting and sense of place

I really enjoyed the story, the character arcs and the ending. The characters were realistic and had relatable dilemmas. It is rare that I want to re-read a book, but this is one I will definitely re-read. There were a lot of nuances and small details that I want to consider on a deeper level.

Skip it!!!

I hate every single character in this story. Also the plot, and I do feel generous calling it that, is so meandering and boring, that it would make the perfect sleep story if it were not for the deeply annoying ditsy voice the narrator puts on for half the characters. Avoid this book!

Feed the rich

Absolutely a book you don’t need to read; want to know how drivel the lives of the rich are? No…me either. Don’t read this book…..not worth it
