Publisher's Summary

For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always–always–guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown…and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home.

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, a heart-wrenching romance full of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue.

vampire book with hunger games indeed

Most of the book was predictable because they sell it saying it's like hunger games. I can't help BUT compare the both and find so many similarities that if I explained plot of both, it'll be basically be the same. 70% of the plot was not for me, 20% was thrilling. Only respite was that descriptions of actually fights however small they may be were good. The only chapters that kept me actually engaged were 47-52 Rest, not so much. Overall, one might like it, it wasn't for me, and hard to finish.

Interesting world and character

Fantasy forward with a little bit of spice! The main character can be really annoying though although every action makes sense considering her past.

OMG!!

What a wild ride. I love this book, it's my new favorite by far! Chapter 51 is the most memorable and INTENSE! I did not expect anything in this book!

Good book, annoying narrator

I really liked this story and look forward to the next book however I hope it is narrated by someone else. Amanda’s cadence and expressions didn’t suit the story and I found it hard to get into the feel of the characters because her way of reading them didn’t match the feeling of the book.

Amazing narration, decent book

The narration on this book is fantastic, probably one of my favourites on audible!

The book itself is like most fantasy romance books. I think there’s like 2.5 spicy scenes and they’re written pretty well. Also I did cry a couple times so be warned.

I loved the FL’s dad, Vincent, and his relationship with the main character. He flip flops between the loving father and the cruel and strict king, it’s not a trope I see often and if I do it’s never written that nicely. He’s such a dynamic character which I really.

I also appreciate that the main character isn’t a damsel, she’s pretty bad ass for being a human in a vampire dominated world.

Something I didn’t love was that most of the trials are pretty similar since she and the male lead respond to the trials in similar ways which makes it hard to see much, if any, character development in the trials. Most of the character development happens between the trials. Other than offering some action, the trials don’t really offer much else so they feel redundant. It would have been cool to see her get stronger after spending weeks training or something.

I loved this book!

Hunger games with a vampire twist is an accurate way of describing this book. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully the second one is as good!
