Story
Narcissistic and toxic mothers are often injured in their childhoods by their own stunted emotional development. In order to fully develop into a healthy adult, we need a very nurturing and emotionally validating environment. Toxic and narcissistic mothers often grow up without that nurturing. They have jumped through hoops and tailored themselves to others around them. They have been invited to be a part of mind games, lies, and manipulation. They may have been told repeatedly that they weren't wanted.

Story
But It’s Your Family is a remarkable account of what it means to cut ties to toxic family abuse and thrive in the aftermath. Loving someone doesn’t always mean having a relationship with them, just like forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation. Reconciling, in many cases, only sets people up for more abuse. A significant part of healing comes with accepting that this is a part of life; there are some relationships that are so poisonous that they destroy one’s ability to be healthy and function best.

Story
Most people don't realize how much unresolved emotional pain they carry around. They don't know why they always feel depressed, anxious, victimized, or disappointed. They wonder why they keep making the same self-sabotaging impulsive decisions. These patterns often stem from their lost inner child, which carries a false narrative that has been on repeat since childhood.

Author is still very jaded/ bitter
Although I recognize both of my parents narcissistic tendencies through reading this book, it was difficult to get through the feeling of anger and resentment that the author still holds within herself for her mother. The book was taken to the extreme, I think, but overall even though it's hard to accept that our parents can be narcissist it is very much an eye opening book and I do recommend it.

Extremely Relatable
I enjoyed listening to this audiobook as I can relate to many points it speaks about. However, it sounds as if the Author is holding some resentment against her own Narcissistic Mother. Completely understandable but maybe not the most healthy for listeners. I believe the goal when going no contact is being indifferent. Holding hate in your heart is never a healthy option. We will always long a Mother but that’s just biology. It’s okay to be estranged and still long a Mother. Just know, it is not your Mother you long.. It’s the comforts of a Mother that yours never provided. Remind yourself of this and maybe look elsewhere to meet your needs of Motherhood. Good Luck xo

Healing and amazing
Hit right in the wound created by being the daughter of a narcissistic mother everything was just like a healing salve and also like the sting of ripping off a bandaid.
