About this listen

The bestselling author of Undoing Depression offers a brain-based guide to help us finally get rid of the bad habits that plague us.

We humans tend to get in our own way time and time again - whether it comes to not speaking up for ourselves, going back to bad romantic partners, our umpteenth diet, or engaging in any of a range of bad habits we just can’t seem to shake. In Rewire, renowned psychotherapist Richard O’Connor, PhD, reveals why our bad habits die so hard. We have two brains - one a thoughtful, conscious, deliberative self, and the other an automatic self that does most of the work without our attention. Using new research and knowledge about how the brain works, the audiobook clears a path to lasting, effective change for behaviors that include:

  • procrastination
  • overeating
  • chronic disorganization
  • staying in bad situations
  • excessive worrying
  • risk-taking
  • passive aggression
  • self-medication
  • and more

Bringing together many different fields in psychology and brain science, Rewire offers a refreshing, science-based new paradigm for readers of Charles Duhigg and Frank Lawlis.

Introduce yourself to many different paradigms

Very mind opening to the different life assumptions we have that lead to our psychological state of mind.

Had methods to get over them, but the real value was in discussing the different personality types. I listen to a lot psychology material but this one added information I hadn't heard others touch on.

overall, highly recommended, even if you think you have no psychological problems.

Great Read

This was an easy book to listen to. Lots of great nuggets as takeaways. I recommend this book to anyone struggling with failure and the inability to get back up and face the adversity. Jeffrey (Jeff) C. Marr Heart Health Coach / Glutathione Enthusiast / Keynote Speaker

Highly recommend not only for yourself but family members to understand someone going through these issues. Great insight

What a great book. It is something that I will return to a lot and reread. It is so soothing to listen to and I recommend it. It really gave me an insight to the things I did. I love that it touched on addictions and just everything was great.

Great book!

This book covers a lot of topics but it is presented in a more digestible form.

Very little, unclearly presented actionable advice

The most actionable part was the last chapter. Everything else was negative fodder on all the paradigms and thoughts that come with them that are related to self-destructive behaviour. Very early on it became a real monotonous struggle to keep listening to all the ways your thoughts can be softly killing you.

badly needs a new narrator

I was very excited about this book, however, I can't get through it with the current narrator, Fred Stella. while he has a great voice, it's not the right one for this kind of book. he sounds like a radio announcer, or more suited to sell something on a commercial or infomercial. it's really hard to take the content seriously, as I feel like I'm being duped due to this commercial voice.

I really tried several times to get through the book, but cannot. so i can't fairly judge the entire book, and just gave it a neutral 3 stars.

Really interesting

Very interesting book, I found the first half really great for personal application and the last half for people who had more serious issues than I. Well written, well narrated

Much More psychology than I wanted.

This is a good book with pretty good material, but the material goes into psychological discussions much more than I expected. mentions things like self harm, self mutilation, cutting yourself,... way too liberally, maybe that was a huge reason for writing the book for the writer but a bit off-putting for me.
