Publisher's Summary

Nominated, 2019 Audie Awards - Best Male Narrator

Meet Threadbare. He is 12 inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero.

Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her.

Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies …

Warning: Contains profanity and violence.

How is it so cute for an adventure story?!

The author of this story is amazing! I could really picture everything and I couldn't wait to hear what was happening next. It was so good that Ive started to listen to it again with my husband and kids. I love the idea behind the story and just superb writing and characters.

Whoever is reading the story did extremely well with the different voices too, really helped you be able to tell all the characters apart and right from the beginning it reels you in.

Excellent performance, story not for me

After reading all the positive reviews, I don’t know what I was missing when I read this book. Started out good and then just disintegrated into what I thought were mindless plot lines. Clearly I missed the overall point of this narrative. Found the constant “upgrades” annoying. Sentence after sentence of “ your such and such is level ....” Skip the epilogue. It is just six minutes of this, over and over again.
Considered not finishing, but I just sped it up until the end. Glad when it was over.
The narrator did an excellent job with the different voices.

So much fun !

I started looking at this book for my son but quickly realized it’s NOT a children’s book. Then realized that this book it totally up my alley! So I bought it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I have to go get the next one. What a fun book!

Not my thing

The description of the book completely portrays a different type of book.
The performance was brilliant.
I just didn’t like the constant side narrative on the game strengths of the characters.

A polite, loving teddy bear fights monsters

Honestly I was expecting more of the same old heroes journey adventure with a teddy bear. The teddy bear kicks all kinds of monsters booty, and remains a caring loving teddy bear. The story remains grounded in it's own rules, and shows great promise. It does not end up anywhere near where I thought it would end.

waste of a credit

I wanted a novel but got a verbal RPG were skill values and acquisitions was more important than a plot.

If only…

I loved the story, which was the perfect mix of engaging, as well as funny and comical and would have gotten 4.5 stars (half a star taken off for some excessive swearing that could easily have been toned down without harming character development), right up to the last chapter - where the author suddenly decided to go full Quentin Tarantino and slaughter everyone’s families and likely their friends as well. I was extremely disappointed and didn’t even bother listening to the free sample of Book 2. Still hoping to find some fan fiction site that will come up with a better ending and transition to the next part of the story. If you decide to give this a listen, just brace yourself for the finale, which is entirely out of character with the remainder of the story.
